How to Pick the Best Tampa Wedding DJ - a Checklist

Whether you call them DJs Dee Jay's or Disc Jockeys, choose carefully - and here's how -

1 - Make Sure your DJ is a Wedding DJ

If this sounds too obvious, it's not. Just being a DJ and having the all the gear does not make you a wedding DJ! You can not buy experience, and experience is the main ingredient for smoothly conducting a wedding.

There many special events within each wedding that need a professional emcee - as well as a guiding hand. A wedding DJ is also a coordinator, with a list of events like first dance, cutting the cake, etc. and a mandate to gather up people and make things happen.

Your DJ will need to be decisive without being overbearing. If your DJ can't do this, you or your family will be constantly organizing rather than enjoying the wedding reception.

So you see, a great sound system and lots of tunes are just for starters. The real credentials for a wedding DJ are

2. Actually doing it four or five hundred times

2 - Make sure your DJ has Backup Equipment

Things can happen to sound equipment due to normal use, transporting, packing and setup - amps burn up, speakers get blown, mics get dropped, etc, etc.

If you don't have spare sound system components at your wedding reception, better make sure your DJ does!!

3 - Make sure your DJ is bonded and/or insured

• Wedding DJ's have lots of expensive equipment!
• Your wedding guests drink alcohol at your reception - sometimes too much!
• One could fall into the DJ's setup, topple it over and accidentally cause thousands of dollars worth of damage liability to you.
• The DJ himself could trip over an unplanned hazard and you would be personally liable for damages, were you not covered.
• Savvy resorts now require entertainers to carry $1,000,000.00 worth of liability coverage - to protect themselves from liabilities just like this.
• Virtually no independent wedding Bands or DJ's have their own liability insurance.

4 - Make sure your DJ has the right repertoire and announcing style for your wedding

Most DJs have large collections of music, but all have a specialty - that one niche where they really shine. Whether your wedding is a fifties theme, classic rock, hip hop, Frank Sinatra and standards or whatever, we can match you up with a DJ that will fit your wedding "hand in glove".

If your wedding is traditional, make sure you get the type of DJ that comes across with style and grace. If your wedding will have only young people attending, then don't get a DJ that looks and sounds like grandpa.

5 - Is your wedding in Catholic, Jewish, Latino, Eastern Orthodox, etc Tradition?

Whatever your religion or ethnicity, the tradition doesn't end with the ceremony, it continues on throughout the reception until the bride and groom are spirited away at the end.

Request a DJ with knowledge and sensitivity to your treasured family traditions. It's fun for the young folks - it's required by the old folks.

Check to see if there is a DJ that speaks the language of your group. Hearing your native language spoken at your reception can be music in itself, as well as a great aid in organizing a group of people who speak English as a second language.
